"A great perfume is a perfect harmony of nature and craftsmanship."
Jacques Cavallier-Belletrud was born in Grasse, into a family of perfumers going back several generations. He grew up surrounded by essences and the harvesting of raw materials. Fascinated by this art from childhood, he created his first formula at the age of 18 before joining the Charabot perfumery school.
After his training, he worked with prestigious houses, including Firmenich, where he designed several perfumes that have become iconic, such as L'Eau d'Issey (1992) for Issey Miyake, which marked a revolution in aquatic fragrances; Jean-Paul Gaultier Classique (1993), Poême (1995) for Lancôme, Opium pour Homme (1995) for Yves Saint Laurent.
In 2012, Jacques Cavallier was appointed exclusive perfumer for Louis Vuitton, a milestone in his career. He created Louis Vuitton's first fragrance collection, launched in 2016, including Rose des Vents, Matière Noire and Dans la Peau.
His compositions for Vuitton are characterised by sophisticated work with natural materials, often inspired by his travels and his strong bond with nature.
Renowned for his style that combines tradition and modernity, Jacques Cavallier is a master in the art of evoking emotions through his creations. In 2018, he inaugurated Les Fontaines Parfumées in Grasse, Louis Vuitton's creative centre, symbolising his attachment to his home town and the transmission of his expertise. His work continues to leave its mark on the world of contemporary perfumery.
