My inspiration can be a simple gesture, a way of being, of saying something, of moving,
captured in the moment by observing men and women going about their lives
Five years ago, Aurélien Guichard decided to return to Tourrettes, near Grasse, to continue the tradition of the seven generations of perfumers who came before him. There, he planted Centifolia roses, tuberoses and lavandin, uncovering the secrets of the growing business through contact with the men and women of this craft, grafters, pruners and pickers.
A long road lay ahead for this pure-bred Grasse native, raised in Paris by a perfumer-creator father and a sculptor mother, who was a student at the Givaudan school of perfumery in 1999. “The day I came back was the day I discovered perfumery, and it has become my entire life.”
Fourteen years later, he was hired by Firmenich and then, in May 2018, he joined Takasago. This perfumer-creator divides his time between the city and the countryside with equal pleasure and has an immense desire to share and pass on his expertise.
In 2020, Aurélien founded his own fragrance brand called Matière Première, he is the only perfumer to grow his own ingredients.
